Professor Amos Gelb, Director of Broadcast and Associate Professor, Medill Graduate School of Journalism, Northwestern University, U.S.A.

  • He comes to Medill after a decade in experiential learning, first as director of academics at the American University Washington Semester program and then as founding director of The George Washington University’s Semester in Washington Program, the only experiential journalism program to have won an Emmy Award for student production. He has also taught at Georgetown University. Before moving into teaching, Professor Gelb was an award-winning television producer for CNN, ABC News Nightline, National Geographic, Discovery, America’s Most Wanted, Fox and a number of other cable networks. His work has won over two dozen awards including two National Emmys, two Ace Awards and a duPont award. He has produced every kind of television from daily news to talk shows, undercover investigations, documentaries and even a reality television show. He focus in academia has been on developing curriculum that can keep pace with the changing media environment, ensuring the students have the skills, metabolism and abilities to compete and excel in today’s hyper-competitive, multimedia journalistic world. He holds a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from America University’s Kogod Business School. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and has a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo.
