{"id":113232,"date":"2017-02-24T08:47:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-24T00:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.symedialab.org.hk\/talk\/?p=113232"},"modified":"2017-02-24T08:47:00","modified_gmt":"2017-02-24T00:47:00","slug":"polices-vows-serve-pride-turn-sour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.symedialab.com\/talk\/polices-vows-serve-pride-turn-sour\/","title":{"rendered":"Police&#8217;s vows to serve with pride turn sour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Chris Yeung<\/p>\n<p>Every time the Hong Kong Police holds a major press conference with something important to say, their spokespersons speak against a backdrop featuring their motto: Serve with Pride and Care.<\/p>\n<p>Confronted with rising expectation in a profoundly-changing society, the police force has vowed to maintain law and order while upholding civil rights and striving for excellence in professionalism.<\/p>\n<p>Those high-sounding promises, however, contrast oddly with the realities unfolded in the recent years, in particular the past week. That could not be more ironic.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday night, more than 33,000 people, almost the same size of the entire fleet of the police force, attended a rally to support the seven police officers who were sentenced to two years in jail for assaulting activist Ken Tsang Kin-chiu.
